Discovery of davemaoite, CaSiO3-perovskite, as a mineral from the lower mantle

Summary: Calcium silicate perovskite, known as davemaoite, is a geochemically important phase in the lower mantle, concentrating elements like thorium and uranium. The discovery of compositional heterogeneity within the lower mantle in davemaoite suggests its influence on the heat budget of the deep mantle. Further observations reveal the presence of potassium in davemaoite, in addition to uranium and thorium, making it thermodynamically stable in the deep mantle.
