PdSe2/MoSe2 vertical heterojunction for self-powered photodetector with high performance

Jiahong Zhong et al.

Summary: Engineering of van der Waals' two-dimensional material heterostructures has led to the fabrication of a high-performance self-powered photodetector with excellent current rectification characteristics and photovoltaic behaviors, capable of responding to a broad spectrum from visible to near-infrared with high responsivity and fast response speed. The heterojunction photodetector demonstrated great application potential in image recognition and is expected to bring new opportunities for highly sensitive, high-speed, and energy-efficient photodetectors for comprehensive applications.

Observation of double indirect interlayer exciton in MoSe2/WSe2 heterostructure

Biao Wu et al.

Summary: Researchers observed double indirect interlayer excitons in the MoSe2/WSe2 van der Waals heterostructure using photoluminescence spectroscopy. The intensities of the two peaks were essentially the same, with an energy difference of 22 meV, in line with density functional theory calculations. Variable excitation power experiments confirmed that the splitting of the excitons originated from the conduction band spin-splitting of MoSe2. These findings provide a promising platform for further exploration of the physical properties and optoelectronic phenomena of transitional metal dichalcogenides heterostructures.

Strongly correlated excitonic insulator in atomic double layers

Liguo Ma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a strongly correlated two-dimensional excitonic insulator ground state in transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductor double layers, providing direct thermodynamic evidence for the state. Capacitance measurements show that the exciton fluid is compressible but charge-incompressible. An exciton phase diagram reveals both the Mott transition and interaction-stabilized quasi-condensation.

Highly Strain-Tunable Interlayer Excitons in MoS2/WSe2 Heterobilayers

Chullhee Cho et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the influence of mechanical strain on interlayer excitons in heterobilayers of molybdenum disulfide and tungsten diselenide, showing nonmonotonic behavior of exciton photoluminescence intensity with strain. This indicates the sensitivity of interlayer excitons to different directions of strain, offering higher strain tunability and new degrees of freedom compared to monolayer excitons.

Moire trions in MoSe2/WSe2 heterobilayers

Xi Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers observed moire trions and their doping-dependent photoluminescence polarization in H-stacked MoSe2/WSe2 heterobilayers. As moire traps are filled with either electrons or holes, new sets of interlayer exciton photoluminescence peaks emerge with specific narrow linewidths. Circularly polarized photoluminescence reveals a switching polarization pattern as moire excitons transition from negatively charged to positively charged, driven by energy relaxation pathways during interlayer trion formation.

Hot carrier photovoltaics in van der Waals heterostructures

Kamal Kumar Paul et al.

Summary: Utilizing spatially confined semiconductors, such as 2D van der Waals materials, can slow down the cooling of photoexcited hot carriers and restrict major energy loss channels, thus enabling efficient utilization of hot carriers in solar cells. Additionally, the review discusses the impact of carrier multiplication on the power conversion efficiency of solar cells.
