Molecular Approach to Engineer Two-Dimensional Devices for CMOS and beyond-CMOS Applications

Yuda Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper provides a review of the recent research progress in the functionalization of two-dimensional materials (2DMs). By covalently or noncovalently functionalizing 2DMs with molecules, more efficient charge injection and transport can be achieved, along with stimuli-responsive functionality. The authors introduce the relevant properties of 2DMs, molecules, and molecular switches, and discuss the physical and chemical strategies for synthesizing 2DM/molecule hybrid systems.

Near-Unity Molecular Doping Efficiency in Monolayer MoS2

Milad Yarali et al.

Summary: Surface functionalization with organic electron donors (OEDs) is an effective doping strategy for 2D materials, achieving doping levels beyond conventional methods. Using monolayer MoS2 as a model system and DMAP-OED as a strong dopant, this study demonstrates doping efficiencies in the range of 0.63 to 1.26 electrons per molecule, with DMAP-OED being a stronger dopant than previous best OED dopant benzyl viologen. The measured doping efficiency range is in good agreement with values predicted from first-principles calculations, providing a basis for rational design of OEDs for high-level doping of 2D materials.

Molecular Dopant-Dependent Charge Transport in Surface-Charge-Transfer-Doped Tungsten Diselenide Field Effect Transistors

Jae-Keun Kim et al.

Summary: Doping in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) can affect charge transport properties, especially the Coulomb scattering induced by dopant counterions on the surface of TMDCs. The amount of charge transfer is related to doping density and the contribution of each dopant ion towards Coulomb scattering.
