Dominikia bonfanteae and Glomus atlanticum, two new species in the Glomeraceae (phylum Glomeromycota) with molecular phylogenies reconstructed from two unlinked loci

Janusz Blaszkowski et al.

Summary: Examination and phylogenetic analyses of two arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi revealed two undescribed species, identified as Dominikia bonfanteae sp. nov. and Glomus atlanticum sp. nov., found in Poland and Portugal, respectively, within the Glomeraceae family. This paper presents the first phylogeny of AMF reconstructed using analyses of concatenated sequences from two unlinked loci, providing insights into the evolutionary relationships of these new species.

New Glomeromycotan Taxa, Dominikia glomerocarpica sp. nov. and Epigeocarpum crypticum gen. nov. et sp. nov. From Brazil, and Silvaspora gen. nov. From New Caledonia

Janusz Blaszkowski et al.

Summary: Examination of fungal specimens collected in the Atlantic rain forest ecosystems of Northeast Brazil revealed many potentially new species of Glomeromycota, with two closely related fungi forming glomerocarps. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that these two fungi represent two divergent undescribed species in the family Glomeraceae, with one placed in the genus Dominikia and the other in a sister clade to the genus Kamienskia.

What are fungal species and how to delineate them?

K. W. Thilini Chethana et al.

Summary: Defining and recognizing fungal species has long been a controversial issue, with over 30 species criteria proposed since Darwin's origin of species. Phylogenetic analyses based on multiple loci are widely used, but can mask discordances among fungal groups. In order to delimit fungal species, phylogenetic and phenotypic coherence, as well as the timing of events leading to speciation, need to be considered.

New taxa in Glomeromycota: Polonosporaceae fam. nov., Polonospora gen. nov., and P. polonica comb. nov.

Janusz Blaszkowski et al.

Summary: The species originally described as Acaulospora polonica actually represents a new genus and a new family of the ancient order Archaeosporales, introduced as Polonospora and Polonosporaceae respectively, within the phylum Glomeromycota. Several morphologically undescribed taxa at the ranks of genus and species are still present within Polonosporaceae with P. polonica comb. nov., having a worldwide distribution.

Ancient lineages of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi provide little plant benefit

Verena Sale et al.

Summary: This study indicates that plant benefit in the symbiosis between plants and AMF is linked to fungal identity and phylogeny, showing that there are large differences in effectiveness of different AMF.
