Apertif: Phased array feeds for the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope System overview and performance characteristics

W. A. van Cappellen et al.

Summary: We describe the upgraded Apertif system, which transforms the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope into a high-sensitivity, wide-field-of-view instrument for L-band imaging and transient surveys. The system utilizes novel PAF technology to form multiple partially overlapping beams on the sky simultaneously, greatly increasing survey speed. The system is currently conducting imaging and time domain surveys, with some data already released.

Hubble Space Telescope Imaging of Isolated Local Volume Dwarfs GALFA Dw3 and Dw4

P. Bennet et al.

Summary: This article presents observations of two dwarf galaxies, GALFA Dw3 and GALFA Dw4, which show isolated and irregular morphology with ongoing star formation. The star formation histories of these two galaxies differ, with Dw3 showing signs of a recently ceased episode of active star formation and Dw4 showing evidence for current star formation in limited regions.

Predictions for the FAST telescope's CRAFTS extragalactic HI survey

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: The FAST telescope has begun the CRAFTS survey, which aims to study extragalactic HI. Results show that CRAFTS can detect nearly 4.8 x 10^5 galaxies and measure the HIMF's 'faint end' slope and 'knee mass'. Considering radio frequency interference and sensitivity limitations, CRAFTS is efficient in detecting HI galaxies at redshifts below 0.1, showing great potential for exploring galaxy interactions and spatial distribution of HI galaxies in the local universe.

MIGHTEE-HI: The HI emission project of the MeerKAT MIGHTEE survey

N. Maddox et al.

Summary: The HI emission project within the MIGHTEE survey is conducted with the MeerKAT radio telescope, aiming to extend our knowledge of HI emission to z=0.6 and study the evolution of neutral gas content in galaxies over the past 5 billion years. The survey is expected to directly detect nearly 3000 galaxies in HI within 0< z< 0.4, with statistical detections extending to z=0.6.

The Tail of Late-forming Dwarf Galaxies in ?CDM

Alejandro Benitez-Llambay et al.

Summary: In a Lambda cold dark matter universe, a small fraction of dwarf galaxies in the mass range 3 x 10(9) to 10(10) solar masses form unusually late compared to the bulk population of galaxies. The formation epoch of these late-forming galaxies tracks well with when their host DM halos first exceeded a time-dependent critical mass, making them attractive cosmological probes with constraining power. The population of late-forming dwarfs is a robust cosmological outcome largely independent of the specific galaxy formation model in simulations, given that the universe underwent cosmic reionization before zre approximately 8.

Constraints on Dark Matter Properties from Observations of Milky Way Satellite Galaxies

E. O. Nadler et al.

Summary: The study on Milky Way satellite galaxies provides strong cosmological constraints on various particle models of dark matter, supporting the cold, collisionless dark matter paradigm. Limits are reported on the mass of thermal relic warm dark matter, velocity-independent dark matter-proton scattering cross section, and the mass of fuzzy dark matter, complementing other observational and laboratory constraints on dark matter properties.

Modelling H2 and its effects on star formation using a joint implementation of gadget-3 and KROME

Emanuel Sillero et al.

Summary: p-gadget3-k is an updated version of gadget-3 that incorporates the chemistry package krome. It tracks the hydrodynamical and chemical evolution of cosmic structures and shows good agreement with observable properties of molecular gas in star-forming galaxies. The model's ability to simulate characteristics of molecular gas makes it valuable for understanding star formation processes.

EDGE: two routes to dark matter core formation in ultra-faint dwarfs

Matthew D. A. Orkney et al.

Summary: Researchers have found that gravitational potential fluctuations within the central region of simulated ultra-faint dwarf galaxies kinematically heat dark matter particles, lowering the central dark matter density. By modifying the initial conditions of the dwarfs, they showed that a delayed assembly history leads to more late minor mergers, resulting in further dark matter heating. Late major mergers can regenerate a central dark matter cusp, suggesting significant stochasticity in the central dark matter density slopes of the smallest dwarfs.

Summary: The SHIELD survey investigates 82 gas-rich dwarfs to study their gas, stellar, and chemical content and understand galaxy evolution at the faint end of the H I mass function. The galaxies are in underdense regions, with some located in voids, and one galaxy appears to be paired with a more massive dwarf.

Efficient early stellar feedback can suppress galactic outflows by reducing supernova clustering

Matthew C. Smith et al.

Summary: We study the effects of new stellar feedback models in galaxy formation simulations, finding that photoionization and supernova feedback can independently regulate star formation, while photoelectric heating is inefficient. Combining all feedback channels reduces the suppression of star formation rates, but significantly reduces outflow rates due to the suppression of supernova clustering by photoionization feedback.

Eridanus II: A Fossil from Reionization with an Off-center Star Cluster

Joshua D. Simon et al.

Summary: This study presents deep Hubble Space Telescope photometry of ultra-faint dwarf galaxy Eridanus II, revealing the star formation history and structure of the galaxy's cluster. The research suggests the presence of a small dark matter core in Eri II and shows that star formation in the galaxy may have been influenced by reionization. The study also demonstrates that the cluster is offset from the center of the galaxy and shares a similar stellar population with Eri II.

GenetIC-A New Initial Conditions Generator to Support Genetically Modified Zoom Simulations

Stephen Stopyra et al.

Summary: genetIC is a new code for generating initial conditions for cosmological N-body simulations, allowing precise user-specified alterations to arbitrary regions of the simulation. It supports nested zoom regions with increasing resolution and introduces a Fourier-space filtering approach for generating fields at variable resolution. The code can also produce constrained initial conditions to match structures in the local universe and achieve subpercent precision for current galaxy formation applications.
