Probing gravity with the DES-CMASS sample and BOSS spectroscopy

S. Lee et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the feasibility of using the DES-CMASS sample (DMASS) as the equivalent of CMASS for a joint analysis of DES and BOSS in the framework of modified gravity. By combining the data vectors of DMASS galaxies' angular clustering, DES METACALIBRATION sources' cosmic shear, and cross-correlation of the two, along with RSD measurements from the CMASS sample and Planck data, we obtain constraints on modified gravity parameters mu(0) and Sigma(0). The constraints obtained with DMASS are tighter than those with other samples using the same external data sets, indicating the effectiveness of this approach in breaking the degeneracy between galaxy bias and other cosmological parameters.

Catherine Heymans et al.

Summary: This study combines weak gravitational lensing observations from KiDS-1000, redshift-space galaxy clustering observations from BOSS, and galaxy-galaxy lensing observations from overlapping surveys to constrain the structure growth parameter S-8, resulting in a discrepancy with the Planck observations by 8.3% relative to Planck. The systematic uncertainties identified through various analyses are incorporated into the cosmological analysis, revealing a tension in the matter fluctuation amplitude parameter, sigma(8).

Cosmic voids in modified gravity models with massive neutrinos

Sofia Contarini et al.

Summary: Cosmic voids are becoming a new viable cosmological probe, sensitive to modifications in gravity, dark energy, and neutrinos. By analyzing the density profiles and size function of voids using N-body simulations, researchers found evidence of enhanced gravity in inf(R) cosmologies at z = 1, which can be overridden by the presence of massive neutrinos. Despite limitations in the simulations, the void size function at high redshifts and for large voids shows potential as an effective probe to distinguish between degenerate cosmological models.

Galaxy assembly bias and large-scale distribution: a comparison between IllustrisTNG and a semi-analytic model

Boryana Hadzhiyska et al.

Summary: In this study, two galaxy models (Illustris'ING and SC-SAM) were compared for their predictions on large scale structure observables for stellar mass selected samples at z=0. The models show good agreement in two-point clustering and galaxy assembly bias, but differences in areas such as halo gas content correlation with environment and occupancy predictions for low-mass haloes. Higher order statistics help accurately describe the galaxy distribution and differentiate between models showing similar behavior in two-point statistics. SAMs are suggested as a promising method for generating mock catalogues for future cosmological surveys.

Summary: Based on the final measurements of clustering using galaxies, quasars, and Ly alpha forests from the SDSS lineage, this study provides comprehensive cosmological implications. The BAO data alone can rule out dark-energy-free models, and when combined with other measurements, significant improvements are made on constraining cosmological parameters within the ΛCDM model.
