Peculiar Disk Behaviors of the Black Hole Candidate MAXI J1348-630 in the Hard State Observed by Insight-HXMT and Swift

W. Zhang et al.

Summary: We present a spectral study of the black hole candidate MAXI J1348-630 during its 2019 outburst, which reveals anomalous behavior in the hard rise stage. The spectra can be well fitted with power-law plus disk-blackbody components, but the canonical relation between disk luminosity and peak color temperature is inconsistent with the observed data. To explain these anomalies, we propose a larger hardening factor for the inner-disk emission at the beginning of the outburst.

Discovery of oscillations above 200 keV in a black hole X-ray binary with Insight-HXMT

Summary: This passage reports the discovery of high-energy LFQPOs in black hole X-ray binaries, and suggests that these oscillations may originate from the precession of a small-scale jet. The study reveals that the behavior of LFQPOs changes with energy, posing a new challenge to existing models.

Summary: This study presents the first observed outburst from the transient X-ray binary source MAXI J0637-430, showing the transition from a soft state to a hard state. Different models, such as blackbody emission, reflection, and Comptonization continuum, are tested to explain the observed spectral features in this source.

Using optical spectroscopy to map the geometry and structure of the irradiated accretion discs in low-mass X-ray binaries: the pilot study of MAXI J0637-430

B. E. Tetarenko et al.

Summary: This study presents an 8-month long multiwavelength monitoring campaign of the new candidate black hole LMXB MAXI J0637-430, along with three quasi-simultaneous epochs of Gemini/GMOS optical spectroscopy. Evidence is found for a correlation between the X-ray irradiation heating the accretion disc and the evolution of the Heii 4686 angstrom emission line profiles detected in the optical spectra. The results demonstrate a connection between the line emitting regions and physical properties of the X-ray irradiation heating the discs during outburst cycles of LMXBs.

Insight-HXMT observations of jet-like corona in a black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070

Bei You et al.

Summary: In this study, an unusual decrease of the reflection fraction in MAXI J1820+070 is observed, suggesting a jet-like corona model and indicating a change in the corona's bulk velocity. The findings provide insights into the evolution of accretion disk and corona dynamics during outbursts in black hole binary systems.

Physical origin of the non-physical spin evolution of MAXI J1820+070

J. Guan et al.

Summary: The Insight-HXMT observations of the black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during its 2018 outburst show an evolution of the inferred spin and other parameters during its high soft state, possibly related to the evolution of the inner disc or deceleration of a jet-like corona. The spin of MAXI J1820+070 is constrained to be a(*) = 0.2(-0.3)(+0.2), indicating that the strong jet activity is mainly driven by the accretion disc rather than by the black hole spin.

Summary: This study presents observational results from a detailed timing analysis of the black hole candidate EXO 1846-031 during its outburst in 2019, revealing relationships between QPO frequency and various physical quantities, with a possible hypothesis proposed. The findings suggest that the origin of type-C QPOs may be non-thermal.

A Multi-instrument Study of the 2018 Hard-state-only Outburst of H1743-322

H. Stiele et al.

Summary: Distinct changes observed in the spectral and variability properties of black hole transients during a bright outburst provide insight into the evolution of the accretion flow and accretion geometry. Through observations of H 1743-322 during its 2018 outburst using NICER, Swift, NuSTAR, and XMM-Newton data, it was concluded that it displayed a hard-state-only outburst with typical photon indices found in the hard state. The NICER monitoring observations allowed for the first time tracking of covariance ratios during a hard-state-only outburst of H 1743-322, confirming the presence of flat covariance ratios at low energies throughout the outburst.

Summary: The study found that MAXI J0637-430 was in a disc dominant state during its outburst in 2019-2020, and its energy spectrum can be modeled using a multicolour disc emission convolved with a thermal Comptonization component. Specific trends in the decay process were observed in the decrease of disc temperature and photon index.
