Predicting the observability of population III stars with ELT-HARMONI via the helium 1640Å emission line

Kearn Grisdale et al.

Summary: Research suggests that Population III stars can be detected using advanced technology, and Pop. III stars with a top heavy initial mass function are more likely to be detected under specific conditions. Additionally, it is possible to observe the HeII lambda 1640 line for galaxies with larger Pop. III stellar masses, even if their initial mass function is similar to that of Pop. I stars.

Integral field spectroscopy of luminous infrared main-sequence galaxies at cosmic noon

L. Hogan et al.

Summary: Our integral field spectroscopy survey of dusty (ultra) luminous infrared galaxies reveals that about 40% of the sample appear to be isolated disk structures, and these galaxies at the peak of cosmic star formation density are mainly influenced by disk galaxies.

Introducing the NEWHORIZON simulation: Galaxy properties with resolved internal dynamics across cosmic time

Yohan Dubois et al.

Summary: Hydrodynamical cosmological simulations are becoming more realistic by considering additional physical processes and higher resolution, such as the NEWHORIZON project which focuses on high-resolution zoom-in simulations within galaxies. The simulation reproduces various scaling relations and captures the inefficiency of star formation and evolution processes in galaxies, providing insights into galaxy formation physics at low-to-intermediate stellar masses.

Physical properties and scaling relations of molecular clouds: the impact of star formation

Kearn Grisdale

Summary: The choice of star formation criteria impacts both galactic and giant molecular cloud scales in a Milky Way-like galaxy simulation. Using a turbulent, self-gravitating star formation criteria leads to increased gas density and larger cloud sizes, affecting the location and distribution of star formation. Despite the differences, relationships between cloud properties remain unaffected.
