Beyond Nicotinamide Metabolism: Potential Role of Nicotinamide N-Methyltransferase as a Biomarker in Skin Cancers

Roberto Campagna et al.

Summary: Skin cancers, including malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, are the most common type of malignancy in white populations, with increasing incidence rates globally. Due to their aggressive behavior and often late diagnosis, they pose a significant challenge for healthcare systems. Identifying new biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and targeted therapy is crucial. Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is emerging as a key player in the progression of various malignancies, including skin cancers, making it a potential target for future research in diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

Synthesis of Isothiocyanates Using DMT/NMM/TsO- as a New Desulfurization Reagent

Lukasz Janczewski et al.

Summary: Thirty-three alkyl and aryl isothiocyanates, as well as their derivatives, were successfully synthesized with satisfactory yields using a one-pot, two-step procedure in the presence of organic base and carbon disulfide. The antibacterial activity of these compounds was evaluated, with ITC 9e showing the highest activity against E. coli and S. aureus bacterial strains.

Recent Advances in the Synthesis of Isothiocyanates Using Elemental Sulfur

Andras Gy Nemeth et al.

Summary: This review discusses the best practices for the synthesis of ITCs using elemental sulfur, including the in situ generation of thiocarbonyl surrogates and the reaction pathways of carbenes and amines to form isocyanides, which further react with sulfur to generate ITCs. Additionally, it reveals the existence of two previously overlooked and uninvestigated mechanistic pathways in the catalyst-free reaction of isocyanides and sulfur.
