An N4-Tetradentate Hydrazone Ligand That Binds in a Neutral, Mono- and Bisdeprotonated Form to Iron(II) and Zinc(II) Metal Ions

Devaraj Pandiarajan et al.

Summary: The coordination chemistry of butane-2,3-dione bis (2 '-pyridylhydrazone) towards the divalent first-row transition metals zinc and iron has been investigated. Depending on the conditions, the ligand in the six complexes can be neutral, mono, or doubly deprotonated. The zinc(II) and iron(II) complexes were fully characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction methods.

Comparative Study on Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Activity of Different Malt Types

Vesela Shopska et al.

Summary: The study examined the brewing characteristics, phenolic content, and antioxidant potential of different malt types used in craft breweries in Bulgaria. Statistical analysis revealed a relationship between malt color and phenolic compound content, as well as a link between the content of Maillard reaction products and malt biological activity. Malts with the highest degree of heat treatment exhibited the highest antioxidant activity due to the presence of Maillard reaction products with antioxidant capacity.
