Nanocarrier Drug Delivery Systems: Characterization, Limitations, Future Perspectives and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence

Samar Zuhair Alshawwa et al.

Summary: There is an increasing demand for the development of nanocarriers that can target multiple diseases with a broad range of properties. Nanocarriers, due to their tiny size, large surface area, and feasible targetability, have optimized efficacy, decreased side effects, and improved stability compared to conventional drug dosage forms. Various types of nanocarriers have been synthesized for drug delivery, and characterization techniques have been proposed and used to predict the behavior of nanocarriers in vitro and in vivo. However, challenges in safety, regulation, and manufacturing hinder the translation of nanocarriers from the laboratory to the clinic.

Enzyme Degradable Polymersomes from Chitosan-g-[poly-l-lysine-block-ε-caprolactone] Copolymer

Yannick Bourgat et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis of chitosan-g-[peptide-poly-epsilon-caprolactone] and its self-assembly into polymeric vesicles using the solvent shift method. The core-shell structures suitable for drug encapsulation were generated by linking the hydrophobic polycaprolactone side-chain and the hydrophilic chitosan backbone via an enzyme-cleavable peptide. The degradability and stability of the polymersomes were investigated through enzymatic degradation tests.

Yiming Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method for synthesizing temperature-responsive giant vesicles and discusses the transformation of these vesicles into smaller ones at 42 degrees Celsius, which can be suppressed by material substitution or hydrogen bonding. These findings have potential applications in cell mimicking studies and therapeutic drug delivery.

From spherical compartments to polymer films: exploiting vesicle fusion to generate solid supported thin polymer membranes†

Myrto Kyropoulou et al.

Summary: The study presents a refined and efficient method to produce solid supported polymer membranes based on amphiphlic triblock copolymers through vesicle fusion. Factors influencing the characteristics of polymer assemblies were explored, with the proper combination leading to uniform planar membranes. This approach brings many advantages to the development of synthetic planar membranes for bio-sensing and biotechnological applications.
