Exploring the focal role of LRRK2 kinase in Parkinson's disease

Sachin Kumar et al.

Summary: Major breakthroughs in understanding the role of biology in Parkinson's disease (PD) have identified mitochondrial dysfunction and the enzyme leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) as important factors in the pathogenesis of the disease. Inhibiting LRRK2 kinase activity shows promise in preventing endolysosomal dysfunction and neurodegeneration in PD, making LRRK2 inhibitors potentially useful therapeutic targets.

Genistein: A Potential Natural Lead Molecule for New Drug Design and Development for Treating Memory Impairment

Shivkanya Fuloria et al.

Summary: Genistein, a naturally occurring polyphenolic molecule, has been found to have neuroprotective effects. This review summarizes the efficacy of genistein in attenuating memory impairment in animals. The results suggest that genistein effectively enhances cognitive performance and ameliorates memory impairment in animal models, particularly in the spatial, recognition, retention, and reference memory domains. The review also discusses challenges, opportunities, and potential modifications of genistein for better drug delivery and physicochemical properties. Overall, genistein shows promise as a natural lead compound for the design and development of a novel neuroprotective drug.
