Development and pharmacokinetic evaluation of a self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system for the oral delivery of cannabidiol

Lie Yun Kok et al.

Summary: The number of lipophilic drug candidates in pharmaceutical discovery pipelines has increased, leading to the need for improved formulation strategies. In this study, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) were used to enhance the oral bioavailability of cannabidiol (CBD). The results showed that the SNEDDS formulations led to more rapid absorption and improved systemic exposure of CBD compared to traditional oil-based formulations.

Effects of lipid nanoparticles on physicochemical properties, cellular uptake, and lymphatic uptake of 6-methoxflavone

Suji Ryu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) and nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) on the lymphatic uptake of 6-methoxyflavone (6MF). The results showed that SLN and NLC could improve the oral bioavailability and sustained therapeutic effect of 6MF. The composition of lipid matrix affected the physicochemical properties and release profiles of 6MF. Encapsulation of 6MF in lipid nanoparticles enhanced its cellular uptake. In vivo lymphatic uptake studies in rats revealed that SLN and NLC significantly improved the lymphatic uptake of 6MF.

Oral delivery of therapeutic peptides and proteins: Technology landscape of lipid-based nanocarriers

Soheil Haddadzadegan et al.

Summary: The oral administration of therapeutic peptides and proteins faces various barriers, which can be overcome by using lipid-based nanocarriers. These nanocarriers enhance the lipophilic character of the drugs and protect them from enzymatic degradation. They can penetrate mucus and absorption membranes, enabling systemic delivery of the therapeutic molecules. Lipid-based nanocarriers show promising stability and delivery efficacy.

Enhanced oral bioavailability through nanotechnology in Saudi Arabia: A meta-analysis

Nawzat D. Al Jbour

Summary: Oral administration is the most suitable means of drug administration due to its high patient compliance. However, the poor solubility and stability of drugs are major obstacles for successful oral drug administration. Drug delivery systems based on nanotechnology offer a solution to these problems and can enhance the therapeutic effect and bioavailability of drugs. Meta-analysis of multiple studies showed that nanotechnology-based formulations can significantly enhance drug bioavailability.

Enhancement of the Solubility and Bioavailability of Pitavastatin through a Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS)

Mehran Ashfaq et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a solid self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of pitavastatin. The solubility of the drug in various oils, surfactants, and co-surfactants was determined, and a pseudo-ternary phase diagram was constructed. The SNEDDS was characterized using various analytical techniques and its release and permeation properties were evaluated. The lipolysis test, RBC lysis, lipid profile, and pharmacokinetics were studied to assess the effectiveness of SNEDDS. The results demonstrated that SNEDDS effectively improved the solubility and bioavailability of the drug.
