Machine-Learning-Based Approach to Decode the Influence of Nanomaterial Properties on Their Interaction with Cells

Ajay Vikram Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, a machine-learning based approach was proposed to analyze cell-NP interactions using tight junction protein ZO-1 mediated alterations in cell/nuclei phenotype. It was found that physicochemical descriptors of different nanomaterials play a critical role in determining the intracellular uptake or cell membrane interactions in epithelial cells. Correlation functions were used to successfully predict cell and nuclei shapes and polarity functions, providing a valuable tool for assessing the safety of nanomaterials used in consumer products and nanomedicine.

A metabolomic approach to target antimalarial metabolites in the Artemisia annua fungal endophytes

Hani A. Alhadrami et al.

Summary: Fungal endophytes are explored for their potential in producing antimalarial agents through metabolomics and computer-aided modeling. Preliminary screening and in vitro validation led to the identification of potentially active compounds, with quinone derivatives showing promising antimalarial activity. Emodin and physcion were identified as potent antimalarial candidates in this study.

New glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor from the Red Sea sponge Echinoclathria sp

Reda F. A. Abdelhameed et al.

Summary: Chemical investigation of Red Sea sponge Echinoclathria sp. led to the isolation of two pure compounds, echinosterol and thalassosterol, which exhibited strong cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines. Docking and molecular dynamic simulation studies illustrated the binding modes of the compounds inside the enzyme's active site.

Potential Anticancer Lipoxygenase Inhibitors from the Red Sea-Derived Brown Algae Sargassum cinereum: An In-Silico-Supported In-Vitro Study

Sami I. Alzarea et al.

Summary: LC-MS-assisted metabolomic profiling of Red Sea-derived brown algae Sargassum cinereum Sargassaceae identified eleven compounds, including two new aryl cresols and eight known compounds. These metabolites exhibited moderate in vitro antiproliferative activity against various cancer cell lines, potentially through inhibiting 5-LOX and 15-LOX. Further enzyme assays and in silico investigations provided insights into the mechanisms behind their inhibitory activity.

Green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles, anti-Alzheimer potential and the metabolic profiling of Sabal blackburniana grown in Egypt supported by molecular modelling

Seham S. El-Hawwary et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using methanolic extracts of leaves, fruits, and pollen grains of Sabal blackburniana. The nanoparticles showed good stability and exhibited potential anti-Alzheimer activity. Analysis of the extracts revealed the presence of various chemical compounds, including flavonoids, steroidal saponins, terpenoids, alkaloids, lignans, sterols, and fatty acids. The non-glycosylated flavonoids were identified as potential compounds responsible for the observed anti-acetylcholinesterase activity of the extracts.
