Summary: When positive and negative polyelectrolytes are mixed, they may form blended complexes or coacervates. The addition of salt MA weakens the charge-pairing interactions between oppositely-charged polyelectrolytes within the complexes. The critical salt concentration (CSC) is used to compare the stability and strength of association in the complexes, but it is not always observed and depends on the type of ions in MA.
