The Major Health Implications of Social Connection

Julianne Holt-Lunstad

Summary: Social relationships have a significant impact on health, influencing long-term physical health and mortality risk. There is accumulating scientific evidence linking various aspects of social connection to mortality, but there are still knowledge gaps that need to be addressed in order to develop effective interventions to reduce risks associated with social disconnection.

Meta-analysis of neural systems underlying placebo analgesia from individual participant fMRI data

Matthias Zunhammer et al.

Summary: Placebo analgesia influences pain-related activity in multiple brain areas, with activity increases mainly in frontoparietal regions, and reductions in regions belonging to ventral attention and somatomotor networks. The findings suggest that the neural mechanisms of placebo analgesia are complex and involve multiple cerebral mechanisms that differ across studies.
