Reference genes for the study of herbicide stress responses in Leptochloa chinensis (L.) Nees and estimation of ACCase expression in cyhalofop-butyl resistant populations

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: Cyhalofop-butyl resistance in Leptochloa chinensis is a threat to rice production, with qualitative changes to ACCase potentially inducing resistance, but the role of quantitative changes remains uncertain. Evaluating transcriptional changes in herbicide resistance-associated genes in L. chinensis is challenging due to lack of reference genes; however, three stable reference genes were identified. The slight up-regulation of ACCase is unlikely to be responsible for high resistance levels in these populations.

An ABCC-type transporter endowing glyphosate resistance in plants

Lang Pan et al.

Summary: Glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide globally, has led to the evolution of resistance in many weed species. A study identified an ATP-binding cassette transporter, EcABCC8, that confers glyphosate resistance when expressed in transgenic rice. This transporter likely effluxes glyphosate in a plasma membrane-localized manner, reducing cellular glyphosate levels.

Whole transcriptome analysis resulted in the identification of Chinese sprangletop (Leptochloa chinensis) genes involved in cyhalofop-butyl tolerance

Ke Chen et al.

Summary: This study used tolerant and sensitive Leptochloa chinensis populations, identified candidate genes for cyhalofop-butyl tolerance through whole transcriptome analysis, and found six possible candidate genes, including three cytochrome P450 genes and three ATP-binding cassette transporter genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed homologs of the differentially expressed cytochrome P450 genes, all of which have close homologs in other species potentially associated with herbicide tolerance.
