Characterization of a Mo-Nitrogenase Variant Containing a Citrate-Substituted Cofactor

Jasper Liedtke et al.

Summary: This study presents a biochemical and spectroscopic characterization of a Mo-nitrogenase variant with a citrate-substituted cofactor analogue, revealing the impact of citrate substitution on CO and N2 reduction pathways. The results suggest a crucial role of homocitrate in substrate reduction by nitrogenase and the potential to modulate product profiles of nitrogenase reactions through organic ligand substitution.

The electronic structure of FeV-cofactor in vanadium-dependent nitrogenase

Zhi-Yong Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic structure of the FeV-cofactor was investigated using genetic, biochemical, and spectroscopic techniques. The findings suggest that the resting state of the FeV-cofactor may be diamagnetic or non-Kramers integer-spin, rather than previously believed to be in a Kramers state. Furthermore, a new rhombic S = 1/2 EPR signal was observed during high-flux turnover, indicating a different assignment for the electronic structure of the FeV-cofactor's resting state.
