Enrichment and detection method for the prognostic value of circulating tumor cells in ovarian cancer: A meta-analysis

Chengying Huang et al.

Summary: The presence of CTCs in peripheral blood is associated with poor survival outcomes for patients, especially in the pre-therapy, surgery, and RT-PCR subgroups. Patients detected with CTCs using physical or immunological methods also show significantly worse OS compared to other enrichment methods.

Small Non-Coding-RNA in Gynecological Malignancies

Shailendra Kumar Dhar Dwivedi et al.

Summary: Gynecologic malignancies are a leading cause of female mortality globally, and studies have shown that small noncoding RNAs play a significant role in the development of these diseases. Despite the unclear molecular mechanisms underlying gynecologic malignancies, noncoding RNAs have been identified as having potential importance in cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Epithelial ovarian cancer and the use of circulating tumor DNA: A systematic review

Christine Fribert Thusgaard et al.

Summary: The systematic review found that ctDNA is a potential biomarker for epithelial ovarian cancer, useful in diagnosis, treatment response monitoring, and prognostics. However, more studies are needed to determine the ideal methods and settings for the clinical use of ctDNA in EOC.

Development and validation for prognostic nomogram of epithelial ovarian cancer recurrence based on circulating tumor cells and epithelial-mesenchymal transition

Jiani Yang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prognostic value of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) undergoing epithelial-mesenchymal transition in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) recurrence. It was found that CTC counts and M-CTC were independent factors for recurrence, and the nomogram model constructed using CTCs and other clinical parameters could predict EOC recurrence and perform risk stratification for clinical decision-making. Significant differences were observed in survival curves based on CTC counts, M-CTC, and the nomogram, indicating the potential of CTCs as a novel factor for EOC prognosis.

Liquid biopsy with droplet digital PCR targeted to specific mutations in plasma cell-free tumor DNA can detect ovarian cancer recurrence earlier than CA125

Takamichi Minato et al.

Summary: By detecting circulating tumor DNA using ddPCR technology, early detection of tumor recurrence in OC patients during follow-up is possible. Tumor-specific mutations identified through exome sequencing can be used to select ddPCR probes, improving detection accuracy. ddPCR showed positive results earlier in the detection of OC recurrence compared to CA125.

Future Screening Prospects for Ovarian Cancer

Diana Zilovic et al.

Summary: Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate among gynecological cancers, with a higher survival rate if diagnosed early, but current diagnostic tools lack sensitivity and specificity. The lack of early symptoms and effective screening strategies leads to a poor prognosis for ovarian cancer, highlighting the urgent need for new diagnostic and screening methods. Liquid biopsies, as a noninvasive and promising method, have been considered for early cancer detection through the analysis of molecular biomarkers.

Summary: The cytotoxic response measured in peripheral blood by GrB in PBMC is impaired both in the course of malignancy and PNS. Levels of GrB in PBMC were higher if onconeural antibodies were detected. Tracking reactive immune responses, such as GrB in PBMC may have diagnostic and monitoring value in malignancy and PNS.
