Mixed valent copper oxide nanocatalyst on Zeolite-Y for mechanochemical oxidation, reduction and C-C bond formation reaction

Gautam Gogoi et al.

Summary: The copper oxide (CuO) nanocatalyst supported on zeolite-Y is an excellent solid phase catalyst for oxidation, reduction, and C-C bond formation reactions, producing derivatives of benzimidazoles and benzaldehydes selectively. This technique offers high yields and selectivity without the need for toxic acids or reducing agents, using isopropanol as an internal reducing agent for aldehyde reduction. The catalyst can selectively reduce compounds with multiple aldehydic groups, and the crystallite size of zeolite-Y plays a crucial role in achieving high selectivity in catalytic oxidation and reduction.

Effect of electrochemical activation on the performance and stability of hybrid (PPy/Cu2O nanodendrites) for efficient ethanol oxidation in alkaline medium

Anas El Attar et al.

Summary: In this study, a new catalyst for ethanol oxidation was developed using Cu2O nanodendrites supported on polypyrrole film. The effect of catalyst regeneration on ethanol electro-oxidation performance was investigated. Characterization techniques such as FTIR, XRD, TEM, SEM, and EDX were used to analyze the catalyst, which demonstrated improved catalytic activity. Stability tests showed that the catalyst maintained good performance after 1000 cycles. Furthermore, ex-situ FTIR spectroscopy revealed a shape-dependent behavior of copper oxide in ethanol oxidation mechanism, leading to the formation of CO2 as the final product.

Bioinspired and eco-friendly high efficacy cinnamaldehyde antibacterial surfaces

Harrison J. Cox et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that incorporating antimicrobial essential oils into different types of coatings can effectively inhibit the growth of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, with coatings on different substrates showing varying levels of antibacterial activity. Furthermore, non-woven polypropylene cloth impregnated with cinnamaldehyde maintains stable antibacterial efficacy even after multiple recycle tests.
