Reversible thermochromic behavior and mechanism of Congo red/palygorskite nanohybrid induced by mechanochromism

Summary: By heavily grinding palygorskite with Congo red dye, a new reversible thermochromic clay-based hybrid was prepared, where the color changed due to broken bonds capturing H+ ions and heating removing adsorbed and zeolitic water, resulting in red to purple transition. This hybrid showed excellent thermochromic property and reversibility, making it suitable for various applications such as food sterilization and intelligent tires.

Mechanistic insights into ethidium bromide removal by palygorskite from contaminated water

Summary: This study investigated the removal of Ethidium bromide (EtBr) from aqueous solutions using a naturally occurring palygorskite (PFl-1) clay mineral. The results showed that EtBr was adsorbed on PFl-1 mainly through a cation exchange-based adsorption mechanism, with increased removal efficiency at higher adsorbate concentrations. PFl-1 was found to be a promising natural material for removing EtBr from pharmaceutical and laboratory wastewater.

The composites exhibited an increase in specific surface area and fluffy coral-like structure with increasing Pal content, showing optimal reflection loss and broad effective absorption bandwidth. This work provides an inexpensive framework for dispersing nanoparticles in electromagnetic absorption materials, suggesting a new application of Pal.

Evaluation of zinc-bearing palygorskite effects on the growth, immunity, antioxidant capability, and resistance to transport stress in blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala)

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of dietary Zn-bearing palygorskite (Zn-Pal) on growth, immunity, antioxidant capability, and resistance to transport stress in blunt snout bream (BNB). Zn-Pal was found to be a better additive in the diet of BNB compared to ZnSO4.

A study on improving the antibacterial properties of palygorskite by using cobalt-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles
