The Effects of MQL and Dry Environments on Tool Wear, Cutting Temperature, and Power Consumption during End Milling of AISI 1040 Steel

Emin Salur et al.

Summary: The study found that the MQL system outperforms dry milling in processing AISI 1040 steel, reducing tool wear, cutting temperature, and power consumption. The cutting environment, cutting speed, and feed rate have significant effects on machining performance, with lower cutting speed and feed rate reducing tool wear and power consumption, while a higher feed rate can improve machining temperature.

ANOVA and fuzzy rule based evaluation and estimation of flank wear, temperature and acoustic emission in turning

Mustafa Kuntoglu et al.

Summary: Prediction of tool wear is crucial in machining, and in this study, cutting tool tip temperature and acoustic emission were measured online, while flank wear was measured offline. Utilizing a fuzzy inference model, the study aimed to predict flank wear, temperature, and AE, showing the dominance of certain cutting parameters on each machining characteristic. The findings from the study highlight the potential of fuzzy rule system for predicting machining characteristics in turning operations.
