Defect interaction summary between edge dislocations and <112>-axis symmetric tilt grain boundaries in copper on activation barriers and critical stresses

Li Li et al.

Summary: The interactions between edge dislocations and <112>-axis symmetric tilt grain boundaries in copper were investigated through atomistic simulations. The results showed that the leading partial dislocation was absorbed into the grain boundary upon impact, while the trailing partial dislocation played a crucial role in determining the threshold reaction stress. The reaction energy barriers exhibited a linear relationship with the resolved shear stress or strain state, and the corresponding strain rate sensitivities obtained through activation volumes matched well with experimental data.

Evolving dislocation cores at Twin Boundaries: Theory of CRSS Elevation

Jessica A. Krogstad et al.

Summary: This article introduces an analytical Evolving Dislocation Core (EDC) model devoid of empiricism, capable of predicting the elevation of Critical Resolved Shear Stresses (CRSS) for any reaction. The model shows agreement with atomistic simulations and experimental results, and establishes a strong correlation between the CRSS elevation and unstable stacking/twinning fault energy and the magnitude of the sessile dislocation's Burgers vector.

Deciphering the interactions between single arm dislocation sources and coherent twin boundary in nickel bi-crystal

Vahid Samaee et al.

Summary: In-situ transmission electron microscopy observations in nickel bi-crystal samples provide insights into the formation of constriction nodes at coherent twin boundaries (CTBs) by the absorption of curved screw dislocations, leading to a unique CTB sliding mechanism involving coordinated twinning dislocation pairs. The interactions between non-screw dislocations and CTBs highlight the importance of the synergy between the repulsive force of CTBs and the back stress from single arm dislocation sources (SASs) in small volumes. The findings contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms controlling the strength and ductility of metals at coherent twin boundaries.
