Synthesis of Silicon Sulfide by Using CS2 Gas

Ryosuke O. Suzuki et al.

Summary: Silicon sulfide (SiS2) was synthesized using a precipitation method with Ar-CS2 gas mixture, resulting in the formation of white, needle-shaped SiS2 from silicon, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, and eutectic Al-Si liquid under specific conditions. The reaction pathway involves vaporization of SiS(g) and deposition as SiS2(s) from Si and CS2, with quartz remaining unaffected. However, the synthesis from eutectic Al-Si liquid was suppressed due to the formation of Al2S3.

Direct WS2 photodetector fabrication on a flexible substrate

Bong Ho Kim et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully fabricated flexible photodetectors based on tungsten disulfide, which showed significantly improved photoresponsivity at different laser illumination wavelengths after electron beam irradiation treatment, along with reduced rise and fall times by 1-2 orders of magnitude. Mechanical durability of the photodetector was confirmed through static and cyclic bending tests, demonstrating only a small loss in performance (>10%) after continuous bending.

MoS2 Based Photodetectors: A Review

Alberto Taffelli et al.

Summary: Photodetectors based on MoS2 have shown remarkable characteristics in the visible spectral range, but can be further improved by coupling with other materials such as nanoparticles or quantum dots for enhanced response in the near ultraviolet and infrared spectral range. Additionally, heterostructures with different materials like other TMDs or graphene can speed up the response time of the photodetectors through the creation of built-in electric fields for faster charge carriers transport. Perovskites have been exploited to enhance device stability as passivation layers and electron reservoirs.

Synthesis of vertically stacked, highly oriented WS2 thin films by Electron beam evaporation

Shamima Hussain et al.

Summary: Highly oriented, vertically stacked, thin films of tungsten disulphide (WS2) were synthesized using electron-beam evaporation, and the growth mechanism and evolution of the thin films were studied. The films exhibited semiconductor behavior, with changes in properties observed after annealing. Additionally, a heterojunction of WS2 (1073 K)/pSi displayed an increased photocurrent under white light illumination.

Di Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-driven and broadband photodetector based on WS2/pyramid Si 2D/3D mixed-dimensional van der Waals heterojunction was demonstrated, achieving impressive device performances including large responsivity, high specific detectivity, and an ultrabroad response spectrum. Furthermore, the photodetector can also function as an infrared imaging cell with high spatial resolution, showing great promise for applications in high-performance broadband infrared photodetection and imaging.
