Effects of shock-induced phase transition on spallation of a mild carbon steel

N. B. Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of shock-induced phase transition on spallation of a mild carbon steel, revealing that the phase transition affects wave propagation and spallation behavior at different stress levels. Stress above the phase transition threshold leads to the movement of the main spall plane and secondary spallation. Furthermore, reverse phase transition upon release facilitates the growth of deformation twins, acting as nucleation sites for voids during spallation.

Effects of microstructure on the evolution of dynamic damage of Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 high entropy alloy

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 high-entropy alloy was studied under plate impact loading to investigate the evolution of voids and their nucleation sites in the microstructure. Results showed that voids nucleated primarily inside the matrix phase due to lattice expansion during martensitic transformation, with stress concentrations at grain boundaries affecting the preferential nucleation sites. Compressive residual stresses at the M/matrix interface and inside the M area had a closure effect on microcracks, guiding their propagation paths.

A novel ZrNbMoTaW refractory high-entropy alloy with in-situ forming heterogeneous structure

Tianxin Li et al.

Summary: This study successfully enhanced the room-temperature mechanical properties of NbMoTaW-based RHEAs by designing and preparing a series of cast ZrxNbMoTaW alloys, with the Zr1 alloy showing superior strength and plasticity at both room temperature and high temperature. The heterogeneous structure in the Zr1 alloy, induced by factors such as increased mixing enthalpy, severe lattice distortion, and non-equilibrium solidification, contributed to the improvement of strength and plasticity.
