Deformation microstructure and thermomechanical processing maps of homogenized AA2070 aluminum alloy

Jiashi Miao et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of homogenized AA2070 Al-Li-Cu alloy was studied, and it was found that dynamic precipitation of T-1 phase causes back stress at temperatures below 400°C, while intermetallic phases gradually dissolve at temperatures above 400°C, leading to dominant dynamic recrystallization as the softening mechanism.

A dislocation-based model for the microstructure evolution and the flow stress of a Ti5553 alloy

Ricardo Henrique Buzolin et al.

Summary: The plastic deformation at high temperatures of two-phase titanium alloys is modelled using a mesoscale approach, taking into account the complex interactions between different populations of dislocation densities. Experimental validation shows that flow softening is related to changes in load partitioning, and the model predicts well the trends of grain and subgrain size changes with strain rate and temperature, as well as the evolution from static recrystallized microstructure to continuous dynamic recrystallized one.

The interplay relationship between phase transformation and deformation behavior during hot compression in a metastable β titanium alloy

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: The hot compression behavior of a metastable beta titanium alloy at 600 degrees C was investigated to analyze the correlation between phase transformation and deformation behavior. The study revealed the presence of four distinct stages in the deformation behavior: near linear hardening, discontinuous yielding, hardening after discontinuous yielding, and final softening. The phase transformation and movement of dislocations play crucial roles in the hardening and softening behavior at different stages of deformation.

Morphology characteristics of α precipitates related to the crystal defects and the strain accommodation of variant selection in a metastable α titanium alloy

Ruifeng Dong et al.

Summary: The research highlights the evolution of alpha precipitates from dot-like to lath-like, V-shaped clusters, or triangular ones during aging treatment. The study also confirms that variant selection of alpha precipitates induced by the transformation strain and the interplay between alpha variants and the dislocations are key factors for the formation of these morphologies.

Summary: By using EBSD and BSE, the study investigated the origin of microtextured region and the impact of thermo-mechanical processing on macro/microtexture in near-β titanium alloys. The results showed that the formation of microtextured region was related to the Burgers Orientation Relationship between α/β and variant selection mechanism.

New insight into deformation induced α variant selection in a metastable β titanium alloy during isothermal compression at 600 °C

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: The study found that during compression of the Ti-7Mo-3Nb-3Cr-3Al alloy, the selection of alpha variants is strongly influenced by imposed strain and load, depending on the effective strain distribution induced by macroscopic shape deformation. Four Burgers orientation relationship variants were selected in the center region of the sample, while only two variants were selected in the edge region.

Microstructural evolution in Ti-37 mol%Nb alloy under uniaxial compression at high temperatures

Yujiro Hayakawa et al.

Summary: Uniaxial compression tests were performed on Ti-37 mol%Nb alloy at various temperatures and strain rates, revealing the evolution of different textures under different conditions. The preferential dynamic grain growth mechanism was observed, with the deformation stress showing correspondence with the deformed structure and texture. The evolution of {001} fiber texture was attributed to grain boundary migration, leading to predominant recovery of {001} grains during high-temperature deformation.

Crystallography and microstructure of the deformation bands formed in a metastable β titanium alloy during isothermal compression

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: This study investigated the crystallography and microstructure of deformation bands formed in a metastable beta titanium alloy during isothermal compression. The majority of the bands were located inside the beta grains and along the grain boundaries, belonging to the {110} 111 slip band type with high Schmid factors. The formation of bands was found to be caused by relative slip of lamellar beta and alpha phases under compression.

In-situ study on tensile deformation and damage evolution of metastable β titanium alloy with lamellar microstructure

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the metastable beta titanium alloy exhibits various deformation modes during tensile process, including dislocation slip, phase interface shear, and grain boundary shear. Due to localized stress concentration and inhomogeneous deformation, microvoids are prone to form at positions such as grain boundaries, phase interfaces, tips of beta interlayers, etc. Additionally, crack propagation follows a zigzag path resulting in an intergranular and transgranular mixed fracture mode.
