Improvement the plasticity of Fe-based bulk metallic glass via low temperature annealing

Tuo Wang et al.

Summary: The plasticity of Fe75Mo5P13C7 BMG can be improved by annealing at low temperature due to nano-crystallization and remaining free volume. The correlation of plasticity with micro-structure, relaxation, and free volume characteristic varies in Fe75Mo5P13C7 BMG with its annealed state under different temperatures. The plasticity will be largest when the ratio of nanocrystals is equivalent to the free volume.

Summary: The study demonstrates that cold rolling and subsequent thermal annealing below the glass-transition temperature can significantly improve the room-temperature mechanical properties of bulk metallic glasses, including mechanical softening and increased ductility. This method can also enhance the plasticity of metallic glasses while maintaining hardness.

Strength-hardness correlations of thermal-exposed oxide dispersion strengthened nickel-based superalloy with different grain size distributions

Guowei Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the relationship between hardness and yield strength of ODS nickel-based superalloys is mainly influenced by factors such as microstructure, anisotropy, grain size distributions, texture, and tested plane. Vickers hardness tests can better evaluate strength changes, especially useful for studying the thermal stability of ODS nickel-based superalloys in the nuclear industry.

Effect of High-Temperature Rolling and Annealing on the Structure and Properties of a Zirconium Based Amorphous Alloy

A. G. Firsova et al.

Summary: Metallic zirconium based glasses are a new and promising family of materials with high strength and plasticity. Various treatments have been applied to form an unhomogeneous amorphous structure to increase the plasticity of these materials. This study investigated the effect of thermomechanical treatment on the structure and properties of amorphous Zr62.5Cu22.5Fe5Al10 alloy bands, revealing an abrupt increase in microhardness due to the formation of nanosized uniformly distributed areas in the structure.
