The study investigated the influence of heat treatment on microstructural homogeneity and tensile properties of TA15 powder ingots. The optimal heat treatment route of solution and aging treatment significantly improved the microstructure homogeneity and increased tensile strength by precipitating secondary alpha s phase within the beta matrix. Additionally, detailed discussions on fracture mechanisms for different microstructures were also conducted.
The TA15 powder ingots were successfully fabricated by powder hot isostatic pressing. The influence of heat treatment on the microstructural homogeneous and tensile properties has been investigated. The optimum heat treatment route was solution and aging treatment, i.e., 930 degrees C/2h/WQ + 600 degrees C/4h/AC, it attributed to improving the microstructure homogeneity. With the secondary alpha s phase precipitated within the beta matrix, the tensile strength was also improved. Furthermore, the fracture mechanisms for the different microstructures were discussed in detail.
