Fracture prediction of powder metallurgical Fe-Cu-C steel at elevated temperatures via finite element-aided hot tensile tests

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: This study aims to clarify the damage and fracture of P/M Fe-Cu-C steel at elevated temperatures by combining hot tensile tests with finite element calculations. The flow behaviors and cracking tendency of the P/M steel strongly depended on the hot deformation parameters, with an optimum hot processing window proposed based on quantitative relationships. A novel elevated temperature fracture strain model was constructed and validated through powder forging experiments, achieving an acceptable fracture predictive capability for managing surface cracking problems during hot processing.
