Summary: Deep-sea bacteria adapted to normal environmental conditions have shown significant tolerance and reduction potential towards ionic mercury, making them potential candidates for mercury bioremediation. The isolates identified in this study, belonging to Pseudomonas, Bacillus, and Pseudoalteromonas genera, were able to reduce over 80% of inorganic mercury through effective volatilization, with functional groups playing a key role in the mechanism of adaptation towards Hg2+ reduction.
