Recent Advances on Bioprinted Gelatin Methacrylate-Based Hydrogels for Tissue Repair

Negar Rajabi et al.

Summary: Bioprinting of body tissues has gained significant attention for its ability to create complex geometries and print patient-specific tissues with different cell types. The use of natural polymers, especially hydrogels, in bioinks is ideal due to their high biocompatibility and minimal inflammatory response. Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel stands out as a promising material for bioinks due to its low cost, biocompatibility, and versatility for soft or hard tissues.

Potential Biomedical Applications of Collagen Filaments derived from the Marine Demosponges Ircinia oros (Schmidt, 1864) and Sarcotragus foetidus (Schmidt, 1862)

Marina Pozzolini et al.

Summary: Collagen filaments from two marine demosponges were isolated, characterised, and tested for regenerative medicine. Filaments from S. foetidus showed higher thermal stability and antioxidant activity, while those from I. oros had lower water binding capacity. The membranes from both filaments exhibited remarkable biocompatibility in cell tests and up-regulation of ECM-related genes.

Collagen Structure-Function Mapping Informs Applications for Regenerative Medicine

James D. San Antonio et al.

Summary: Type I collagen is a key protein in vertebrates, playing essential roles in tissue form and function. Understanding the structure-function relationship of collagen and its disease-associated mutations can lead to insights for anti-fibrotic treatments, tissue regeneration, and biomimetic collagen design.
