Hydrocarbon source rock potential of the Lower Eocene carbonates from the Abu Darag sub-basin, Gulf of Suez, Egypt: Integrated organic geochemical and petrographic analyses

Amr S. Deaf et al.

Summary: The Lower Eocene Thebes Formation in the north Gulf of Suez is a potential hydrocarbon source rock with organic matter derived from both marine and terrestrial sources. Further exploration activities are needed to fully understand the organic facies composition and hydrocarbon potential of the Thebes Formation.

Petrophysical characteristics and hydraulic flow units of reservoir rocks: Case study from the Khatatba Formation, Qasr field, North Western Desert, Egypt

Mohamed Ragab Shalaby

Summary: The reservoir characteristics and hydraulic flow unit properties of the Khatatba Formation in Qasr field, Western Desert, Egypt were investigated using various methods to analyze and characterize the sandstone. Samples from three different wells showed that the sandstone can be classified into three rock types, where Rock type I has the best storage capacity and permeability, while Rock type III is the poorest quality reservoir.

Sequence stratigraphy and distribution of organic-rich Lower Cretaceous mixed clastic-carbonate strata in Matruh Basin, northwestern Egypt: Constrains on the Tethyan sea level changes, palaeoclimate, and tectonics

Amr S. Deaf

Summary: Integrated palynological, lithological, and geophysical analyses of the Lower Cretaceous in Matruh Basin enabled high-resolution sequence stratigraphic analysis. The fluctuations in palynomorph ratio reflected changes in Tethyan sea levels, with an impact from regional climate and tectonics. The deposition of organic-rich sediments was influenced by these factors, leading to distinct sedimentary patterns in the basin.
