History of nitroxide mediated polymerization in Canada

Milan Maric

Summary: NMP, a type of reversible deactivation radical polymerization, has been developed in Canada and expanded to different polymer architectures and monomers. The introduction of second-generation alkoxyamine initiators greatly increased the range of monomers that can be polymerized in a controlled manner, leading to new applications and products in the field of polymer synthesis.

Shape-Changing Bottlebrush Polymers

Bin Zhao

Summary: Bottlebrush polymers, composed of short polymeric side chains densely grafted on a polymer backbone, exhibit shape-changing behavior in response to environmental stimuli. By introducing a second solvophilic polymer into the side chains, the collapsed brushes are stabilized and can create unimolecular micellar nanostructures, showing potential for encapsulation and delivery applications. Challenges in the design, synthesis, and characterization of stimuli-responsive shape-changing BBPs are discussed.
