Synthesis and thermal behaviour of thiophene-based oxazine-ring substituted benzoxazine monomers & polymers

Summary: In this study, the latest fourth-generation oxazine-ring substituted thiophene-based benzoxazine monomers and polymers were synthesized and characterized. It was found that thiophene-based di-substituted benzoxazine undergoes ring-opening polymerization at low temperature with minimal mass loss. These materials provide ample opportunities for molecular-level design of high-performance polybenzoxazines with promising smart applications.

This has significant implications for the environment and the sustainable development of circular economy.

Metal Complexes of the Porphyrin-Functionalized Polybenzoxazine

Summary: A new porphyrin-functionalized benzoxazine (Por-BZ) with high purity and yield was synthesized in this study. The thermal properties of the polymerization product showed that Por-BZ required a higher temperature for ring-opening polymerization (ROP) due to the presence of the porphyrin moiety. Insertion of Ni and Zn ions decreased the ROP temperature and improved the thermal stability of the complexes.

The properties of these FFC-CMP/CD-BZ complexes were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques. The complexes exhibited outstanding thermal stability and CO2 uptake ability.

Selective positioning of groups in the oxazine ring can guide the structural designing of monomers for a wide variety of applications.
