Realizing Near-Infrared Laser Dyes through a Shift in Excited-State Absorption

Reiko Aoki et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a highly efficient NIR emitter based on a boron difluoride curcuminoid structure, showing high photoluminescence quantum yield and fluorescence radiative rate constant in a solid-state film, leading to amplified spontaneous emission and lasing. The large redshift of the stimulated emission is attributed to the transition between the lowest excited state and different vibrational levels of the ground state.

Light Amplification and Efficient Electroluminescence from a Solution-Processable Diketopyrrolopyrrole Derivative via Triplet-to-Singlet Upconversion

Atul Shukla et al.

Summary: Efficient electroluminescence (EL) and low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) thresholds were achieved in a solution-processable organic laser dye, DT-DPP, through the use of triplet excitons and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). The organic light-emitting diode fabricated from this system showed a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.9% due to the efficient utilization of triplet excitons. High reverse intersystem crossing rate was found to be crucial in achieving lasing under electrical pumping from such TADF-assisted fluorescent systems.

Novel optoelectronic technique for direct tracking of ultrafast triplet excitons in polymeric semiconductor

Gangadhar Banappanavar et al.

Summary: The exciton physics of organic semiconductors is an exotic domain, with singlet and triplet kinetics playing important roles in optoelectronic device performance. Research shows that polymer chain packing affects triplet diffusion, while triplet-triplet fusion process in polyfluorene systems offers insight into triplet exciton kinetics. An innovative method has been developed to track triplet exciton position in OLEDs, revealing anisotropic diffusion in thinner films and reduced anisotropy with increased film thickness. Additionally, diffusivity in thick polymeric semiconductor films approaches ultrahigh values, similar to acene-based molecular crystalline thin films.

Lasing in the space charge limited current regime

Alex J. Grede et al.

Summary: An analytical model for ideal organic laser diodes is introduced, based on the argument that their intrinsic active layers necessitate operation in the bipolar space charge-limited current regime. This study establishes a foundation for the development of organic laser diode technology by providing expressions for threshold current and voltage, and an analytical bound for laser operation in the presence of annihilation and excited-state absorption losses.
