Linear and Nonlinear Viscoelasticity of Polypropylene Containing Cross-Linked Gels

Chia-Ying Tsai et al.

Summary: The dynamic viscoelastic and elongational flow behaviors of polypropylene (PP) with increased loading of micron-sized gelled particles have been investigated. The results show that incorporating gel particles can significantly enhance the melt properties of PP. The gel particles create a gel-like behavior by acting as a soft filler and connecting the PP matrix through bridge-like structures. These findings have important implications for improving melt strength in polymer systems.

Improvements in electric vehicle battery technology influence vehicle lightweighting and material substitution decisions

Joshua Thomas Jameson Burd et al.

Summary: The demand for battery electric vehicles has grown due to climate action targets and energy policies globally. Research evaluates the cost tradeoffs of lightweight material substitution in BEV design over time, indicating that as battery and motor costs' lightweighting advantages decline, the cost advantage of steel design increases.

Effect on the Impact Properties of Adding Long-Chain Branched Polypropylene in Polypropylene-Polyolefin Elastomer Cellular Polymers Produced by Core-Back Injection Molding

Santiago Munoz-Pascual et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding polyolefin elastomer (POE) to polyethylene materials can improve impact response but reduce stiffness, while substituting linear polypropylene (L-PP) with long-chain branched polypropylene (LCB-PP) in blends can improve both stiffness and impact properties simultaneously.

Polypropylene/talc foams with high weight-reduction and improved surface quality fabricated by mold-opening microcellular injection molding

Junji Hou et al.

Summary: The study examined the preparation of foamed polypropylene parts using mold-opening microcellular injection molding with talc as a nucleating agent. Talc was found to promote PP crystallization but did not enhance its viscoelasticity. High packing pressure can eliminate cells, improving surface quality, while cell density and size are influenced by packing time and mold-opening distance.

A comparative study on nanoinclusion effect of MoS2 nanosheets and MoS2 quantum dots on fracture toughness and interfacial properties of epoxy composites

Shahina Riaz et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that MQDs significantly enhanced the mechanical properties of EP composites, outperforming MNSs. This is attributed to the small size and excellent dispersion of MQDs, allowing them to effectively fill voids and interact better with the EP matrix to improve mechanical and interfacial properties.

Lightweight and strong glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composite foams achieved by mold-opening microcellular injection molding

Chunxia Yang et al.

Summary: Microcellular injection molding (MIM) is a flexible, efficient, and environmentally friendly foaming technology used to prepare plastic foams with complex shapes. Mold-opening microcellular injection molding (MOMIM) was used to prepare high-performance polypropylene/glass fiber (PP/GF) composite foams, which exhibit significantly improved mechanical properties compared to pure PP foams. MOMIM can enhance the flexural modulus of molded samples, and the addition of glass fiber in PP/GF composites can greatly increase tensile strength and modulus.
