A Highly Selective Turn-On Fluorescent Sensor for Aluminum Ion Detection in Aqueous Solution Based on Imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole Schiff Base

Haibin Wang et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescence sensor based on imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole is reported, showing high selectivity and sensitivity towards Al3+ in aqueous solutions with a turn-on fluorescence response. The sensor also exhibits strong anti-interference to other common ions and offers great potential for detecting Al3+ in tap water. The proposed sensing mechanism involves the inhibition of photo-induced electron transfer (PET) and chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF), providing guidance for developing sensors with turn-on fluorescence response.

Three in one sensor: a fluorometric, colorimetric and paper based probe for the selective detection of mercury(ii)

Emine Gul Cansu Ergun

Summary: In this study, a novel donor-acceptor-donor-type conjugated molecule based on 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene and tetrahydrophenazine was used as a turn-off fluorescence sensor for the first time, specifically for detecting mercury ions. The sensor exhibited almost complete fluorescence quenching and changed color upon interaction with Hg2+ ions, serving as both a fluorescence and chromogenic sensor. Under acidic conditions, the sensor showed increased sensitivity with a lower limit of detection.

Four xanthene-fluorene based probes for the detection of Hg2+ ions and their application in strip tests and biological cells

Guozhi Zhao et al.

Summary: Four new xanthene-based fluorescent probes were synthesized and characterized for their high selectivity and sensitivity towards Hg2+ in PBS buffer solution. The detection limits of the probes for Hg2+ ranged from 10.4 to 16.2 nM, and probe 4 was successfully applied for the detection of Hg2+ in biological cells.
