Green Synthesis of Self-Passivated Fluorescent Carbon Dots Derived from Rice Bran for Degradation of Methylene Blue and Fluorescent Ink Applications

Vinoth Kumar Jothi et al.

Summary: Natural products have been utilized as a powerful carbon source to synthesize carbon dots with interesting physical and chemical properties. A facile hydrothermal synthesis method using rice bran as a biogenic precursor was reported for preparing fluorescent carbon dots without any surface passivation agent. The synthesized RB-CDs exhibited green emission with a fluorescence quantum yield of 7.4% and were efficiently applied as a catalyst for the degradation of methylene blue dye, as well as a fluorescent ink for anti-counterfeiting applications.

A simple, fast, and direct electrochemical determination of tyramine in Brazilian wines using low-cost electrodes

Amanda Goncalves da Silva et al.

Summary: Biogenic amines are organic compounds formed in foods and beverages through enzymatic reactions or microbial decarboxylation of amino acids, and can lead to health issues if consumed in excess over time. Tyramine, a common biogenic amine found in fermented foods, requires a fast, simple, and reliable detection method to ensure food safety.

A facile green synthesis of functionalized carbon quantum dots as fluorescent probes for a highly selective and sensitive detection of Fe3+ ions

Urosa Latief et al.

Summary: This study reported an economical, easy, greener, and non-toxic synthesis method of water-soluble carbon quantum dots (CQDs), which exhibit strong blue fluorescence under UV lamp and show a sensitive response to Fe3+ ions. TEM measurements confirmed their spherical morphology and varying sizes in the range of 0.5-5 nm, with a detection limit of 0.2 μM.
