Conjugate volcanic passive margins in the austral segment of the South Atlantic - Architecture and development

Francois Chauvet et al.

Summary: The thorough interpretation of the South Atlantic long-offset seismic lines provides a new perspective on the magmatic and crustal architecture of the conjugate volcanic passive margins along the austral segment. The study reveals a correlation between crust thinning profiles and the geometric attributes of seaward dipping reflector sequences (SDR), suggesting a genetic relationship related to magma-assisted lithospheric break-up. The South Atlantic margins exhibit moderate but significant asymmetry, with a change towards more symmetric architecture near highly magmatic areas.

Pre-existing lithospheric weak zone and its impact on continental rifting - The Mid-Polish Trough, Central European Basin System

Stanislaw Mazur et al.

Summary: The large portion of Central and NW Europe has been affected by wide-spread continental rifting since the Carboniferous-Permian transition, leading to the nucleation of several large depocentres. The Mid-Polish Trough (MPT), located along the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone (TTZ) at the margin of the East European Craton (EEC), is an exception to the deep grabens formed in Germany and the Netherlands. The study demonstrates that fossilized crustal architecture plays a key role in controlling the amount, distribution, and style of continental rifting by analyzing the crustal architecture of CEBS.

Rifted margins classification and forcing parameters

F. Sapin et al.

Summary: This article proposes a classification of rifted margins based on mechanical behavior and magma production, illustrating that rifted margins are not divided into opposing types but described as a combination and continuum that can evolve through time and space.
