Environmental level of the antidepressant venlafaxine induces behavioral disorders through cortisol in zebrafish larvae (Danio rerio)

Yaqiu Tang et al.

Summary: The study found that venlafaxine can stimulate the growth of head area, eye area, and body length of zebrafish, as well as increase the activity of zebrafish larvae. Venlafaxine also affects the function of steroidogenic cells, leading to increased cortisol levels in zebrafish larvae, while melatonin has a reversing effect on these changes. These results suggest that venlafaxine in aquatic environments can impact behavior and compromise adaptive responses in zebrafish larvae.

Hepatokines and adipokines in NASH-related hepatocellular carcinoma

Ozlem Kucukoglu et al.

Summary: The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma is increasing in industrialised societies, likely due to the burden of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the metabolic syndrome. Research has focused on identifying risk factors for NAFLD-related HCC and exploring new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Liver-derived factors such as hepatokines and adipokines may serve as potential markers for disease progression or therapeutic targets in NAFLD-related HCC.
