A fully implicit coupled pore-network/free-flow model for the pore-scale simulation of drying processes

K. Weishaupt et al.

Summary: The research introduces a fully coupled pore-network/free-flow model for providing pore-scale insight into drying processes. By solving the Navier-Stokes equations and dynamically coupling the multi-physics model in the free-flow region and porous domain, it offers a detailed temporal resolution of drying processes. Numerical examples demonstrate the model's ability to cover a wide range of physical processes relevant for drying and show the mutual interaction of the two subregions.

Droplet evaporation in finite-size systems: Theoretical analysis and mesoscopic modeling

Linlin Fei et al.

Summary: In this work, a revised theoretical analysis of single droplet evaporation is presented for finite-size open systems, taking into consideration 2D and 3D cases. The classical D2-Law is found to be applicable only for 3D large systems, while deviations occur for small and/or 2D systems. Theoretical solutions for the temperature field are derived, and numerical simulations using the lattice Boltzmann method are performed, achieving remarkable agreement with the theoretical solution.

Lattice Boltzmann modeling and simulation of forced-convection boiling on a cylinder

Shimpei Saito et al.

Summary: The research findings suggest that the CM-based LBM can successfully reproduce various boiling mechanisms without the need for artificial input, including nucleate boiling, transition boiling, and film boiling. Experimental observations and simulation results are consistent, showing intermittent solid-liquid contact during the film-boiling stage.

Direct numerical simulations of moisture transport in porous media by a multi-component/phase-change lattice Boltzmann method

B. Baradaran Kazemian et al.

Summary: In this paper, simultaneous heat and mass transport in porous media is numerically studied using a 2D multicomponent/multiphase phase-change lattice Boltzmann scheme. The evaporation in packed hydrophilic beds is found to play an important role in capillary rise of liquid, and the effects of contact angles and packed bed structures on liquid absorption are investigated. The directional and heterogeneous packed beds are shown to absorb more liquid in a shorter time compared to homogeneous packed beds under the same conditions.

Lattice Boltzmann Modeling of Drying of Porous Media Considering Contact Angle Hysteresis

Feifei Qin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of contact angle hysteresis on liquid drying in porous media and proposes a method to implement a contact angle hysteresis model within the framework of LBM. By simulating the attachment and drying of droplets on flat and curved surfaces, and studying the drying process of two connected capillary tubes, the results show that the proposed model can accurately handle different contact angle hysteresis ranges and capture the physical mechanisms during the drying process in different porous media.
