Biological and Neuroimaging Markers as Predictors of 5-Year Incident Frailty in Older Adults: A Secondary Analysis of the MAPT Study

Wan-Hsuan Lu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of biological and neuroimaging markers in determining incident frailty among older adults over a period of 5 years. Although some markers like 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency, homocysteine levels, and neuroimaging data were significantly associated with incident frailty in unadjusted models, these associations disappeared after adjustment for age, sex, and other confounders. Omega-3 index was the only marker that showed a trend of association with incident frailty.

Is microvascular dysfunction a systemic disorder with common biomarkers found in the heart, brain, and kidneys? - A scoping review

Armin Nowroozpoor et al.

Summary: The study reveals that microvascular dysfunction shares common blood biomarkers in the brain, heart, and kidney, with pathways including endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, immune activation, and coagulation. Certain biomarkers such as triglyceride and uric acid are increased in MVD across these three organs, while vitamin D is decreased.
