This paper reviews the research progress of high entropy alloy (HEA) coatings in terms of oxidation resistance. The effects of alloying elemental composition, microstructure, and phase composition on the oxidation resistance of HEA coatings are discussed.
Due to the unique rules of elemental composition, the high entropy alloys (HEAs) possess excellent properties such as wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Combining HEAs with advanced thermal spray technology can provide new ideas and solutions to the problems encountered in the development of surface engineering. Researchers found that HEA coatings showed excellent potential in the field of high-temperature oxidation resistance. Based on this, this paper reviews the recent research achievements on the oxidation resistance of thermal sprayed HEA coatings. The effects of alloying elemental composition, microstructure and phase composition on the oxidation resistance of HEA coatings are compared and discussed. Subsequently, the research progress of HEA coatings in terms of oxidation resistance is summarized. The idea of optimizing the oxidation resistance of HEA coatings is proposed. The ultimate objective of this paper to promote the application of HEA coatings in the field of high-temperature protection.
