Development of Bacillus subtilis self-inducible expression system for keratinase production using piggery wastewater

Ming-Zhi Cai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish self-inducible T7 expression systems in Bacillus subtilis for the production of keratinase and investigate the feasibility of using PW as a nutrient source. The findings demonstrated that the self-inducible T7 expression strain PT513(DMT1-mKerP) was favorable for keratinase production with the utilization of wastewater as a nutrient source in the cultivation medium.

Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Fish Waste as an Alternative to Produce High Value-Added Products

J. Araujo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that enzymatic hydrolysis of fish waste can result in the production of high value-added products such as protein hydrolysates, collagen, and fish oil. The enzyme/substrate ratio was found to be the main factor influencing the hydrolysis rate, and linear relationships were observed between the degree of hydrolysis and the amounts of the obtained by-products. In optimal conditions, a significant reduction in waste disposed to landfill can be achieved by utilizing fish waste as raw material for by-product fabrication.

Enzymatic fish protein hydrolysates in finfish aquaculture: a review

Muhammad A. B. Siddik et al.

Summary: In intensive farming systems, incorporating health-promoting compounds like proteins, hydrolysates, and bioactive peptides into fish feed is crucial for enhancing defense mechanisms, growth, and immune functions of fish. Fish processing waste can be converted into valuable products such as fish protein hydrolysate (FPH), which is rich in nutrients and antioxidants, improving fish growth, immune response, and disease resistance. The production of targeted FPH with superior functionalities has high demand in aquafeed supplements, showing potential for sustainable aquaculture development.
