Magnitude and decline of pesticide co-formulant residues in vegetables and fruits: results from field trials compared to estimated values

Marianne E. Balmer et al.

Summary: The application of plant protection products leads to residue formation in crops, with co-formulants detected at high levels but declining rapidly. Removal processes such as wash-off and volatilization play important roles in reducing residues, although organic solvent residues remain considerable in specific crops even after two weeks. Estimation of co-formulant residues using publicly available data on pesticide a.s. is feasible, providing important insights for future considerations of consumer exposure.

Effects of co-formulants on the absorption and secretion of active substances in plant protection products in vitro

Mawien Karaca et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that surfactant co-formulants can significantly increase the cytotoxicity of plant protection products, leading to more than additive mixture effects. These co-formulants may increase the bioavailability of active substances and alter cell membrane properties, contributing to the increased toxicity of PPPs.

Improving the simultaneous target and non-target analysis LC-amenable pesticide residues using high speed Orbitrap mass spectrometry with combined multiple acquisition modes

Lukasz Rajski et al.

Summary: The use of high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for pesticide residue analysis in food control has been studied over the last decade, showing challenges in efficacy compared to triple quadrupole mass spectrometers. Integrated modes like full scan, allions fragmentation, and target MS2 showed better results in targeted analysis, while optimization of spectral libraries can reduce false positive detects.
