Three-dimensional nondestructive characterization of delamination in GFRP by terahertz time-of-flight tomography with sparse Bayesian learning-based spectrum-graph integration strategy

Yafei Xu et al.

Summary: The study proposes a sparse Bayesian learning-based spectrum-graph integration method for super-resolution characterization of multi-ply delamination defects in GFRP composites. By implementing spectrum localization and graph quantification processes, accurate depth location, transverse location, and size of each delamination defect can be obtained with an estimated accuracy of over 95%. This strategy enables quantitative and simultaneous characterization of axial and transverse information of delamination defects within GFRP composites with high resolution.

Inverse engineering of electromagnetically induced transparency in terahertz metamaterial via deep learning

Wei Huang et al.

Summary: This paper applies a deep learning network to the inverse engineering of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in terahertz metamaterials. By taking three specific points of the EIT spectrum into the model, the geometrical parameters of the metamaterials were successfully predicted and inversely designed. The method shows promising results in testing and provides a new approach for designing EIT metamaterials.

Dynamic control of reflective chiral terahertz metasurface with a new application developing in full grayscale near field imaging

Jitao Li et al.

Summary: A reflective chiral THz metasurface design utilizing monolayer graphene on low resistance Si substrate for controlling chiral properties effectively. Dynamic control of THz reflection can induce state switch between 'On' and 'Off' for applications like vortex focusing and near field imaging. Development of full grayscale near field imaging application allows for displaying full grayscale details unlike traditional near field imaging.

Terahertz nondestructive quantitative characterization for layer thickness based on sparse representation method

Yafei Xu et al.

Summary: The study introduces the sparse representation (SR) method for quantitatively characterizing layer thickness from complex THz echo signals. To improve computational efficiency, a combination search method for selecting the optimal regularization parameter is proposed. The numerical and experimental analysis validates the robustness of the SR method in THz echo localization compared to conventional methods.

High-Efficiency Terahertz Nonreciprocal One-Way Transmission and Active Asymmetric Chiral Manipulation Based on Magnetoplasmon/Dielectric Metasurface

Zhiyu Tan et al.

Summary: The lack of low-loss and high-efficiency nonreciprocal isolators is a limitation in the development of terahertz (THz) application systems. This study demonstrates that longitudinally magnetized InSb can achieve one-way transmission for one photonic spin state but faces difficulties with linear polarization (LP) state. By fabricating a silicon microstructure on the InSb substrate, a magnetoplasmon/dielectric metasurface is formed, breaking the symmetric transmission of the two different spin states. This device efficiently transforms the forward LP state into one of the spin states with low loss and achieves over 30 dB isolation for LP incidence.

Leveraging long short-term memory (LSTM)-based neural networks for modeling structure-property relationships of metamaterials from electromagnetic responses

Prajith Pillai et al.

Summary: Researchers introduced a neural network model to predict the electromagnetic response of mesoscale metamaterials and generate design parameters for desired spectral behavior. Their approach involves treating spectral data as time-varying sequences and the inverse problem as a single-input multiple output model, enabling the network architecture to learn the geometry of metamaterial designs from the spectral data.
