Tunable propagation of surface plasmon-phonon polaritons in graphene-hBN metamaterials

Haoyuan Song et al.

Summary: By studying the coupled surface plasmon-phonon polaritons in graphene-hBN metamaterials, it is found that the propagation properties can be adjusted by changing the chemical potential and filling ratio. Additionally, tuning the material parameters such as thickness and number of layers can also improve the tunability of the metamaterial. Furthermore, the presence of ghost SPPP modes with oscillation-attenuation characteristics is observed under special conditions, demonstrating the complexity of the propagation behavior in the material system.

Plasmonic sensor based on metal-insulator-metal waveguide square ring cavity filled with functional material for the detection of CO2 gas

S. N. Khonina et al.

Summary: A CO2 gas sensor design based on MIM waveguide and PHMB functional material is numerically investigated, showing high sensitivity and linear response to CO2 gas. The sensor sensitivity is over 7 times higher than silicon photonics-based sensors, attributed to the strong interaction of SPP waves with matter. This work presents a platform with significantly improved sensitivity for toxic gas detection using different functional materials.

Optical Fiber Delivered Ultrafast Plasmonic Optical Switch

Jinghui Yang et al.

Summary: The integration of plasmonic optical switch devices with optical fibers allows for practical applications in long-range optical data transmission and communication. By incorporating plasmonic optical switch devices onto the end facets of optical fibers, ultrafast optical signals can be generated and transmitted through fiber waveguides, marking a breakthrough in logic data transmission. The quenching of localized surface plasmon in gold nanowires through interaction with band-edge modulation is the key factor in the photophysics of this technology.

Summary: The study investigates the peculiarities of absorption of cholesteric liquid crystals with magneto-optical activity, and how the effects of anomalously weak and strong absorptions change in the presence of an external magnetic field. It is shown that at large values of the magneto-optical activity parameter, new absorption features emerge due to the shift in real and imaginary parts of wave vectors of the eigenmodes.

Large spatial shifts of reflective beam at the surface of graphene/hBN metamaterials

Hao-Yuan Song et al.

Summary: Theoretical study on the Goos-Hanchen and Imbert-Fedorov shifts of reflective beam on graphene/hBN metamaterial surfaces showed enhanced GH-shift and large reflectivity near the critical angle. The IF-shift was found to be highest under special polarized-beam conditions or specific reflective coefficient conditions. Adjusting the chemical potential, filling ratio, and tilted angle can effectively modify the position and width of frequency windows to achieve maximum shift values for the development of new nano-optical devices.
