Mechanism of hopping conduction in Be-Fe-Al-Te-O semiconducting glasses and glass-ceramics

Natalia A. Wojcik et al.

Summary: The electrical properties of beryllium-alumino-tellurite glasses and glass-ceramics doped with iron ions were investigated using impedance spectroscopy. The conductivity was found to be correlated with the concentration and valence states of iron ions. The conduction process in glasses was attributed to overlap polaron tunneling, while in glass-ceramics, quantum mechanical tunneling between semiconducting crystallites of iron oxides was proposed. The relationship between alumina dissolution and melt basicity was observed.

Structure and transport properties of donor-doped barium strontium cobaltites

T. Miruszewski et al.

Summary: In this study, Nb-substituted barium strontium cobaltites were fabricated and studied, showing that Nb content influences lattice constant and atomic distances, but not porosity and grain size of ceramics. The total conductivity is influenced by the cobalt to niobium ratio, with similar conduction mechanisms in all samples. The difference in total conductivities in dry and wet atmospheres below 500 degrees C indicates the presence of protonic defects, with hydrogenation proposed as the predominant mechanism for proton formation.

Structure and magnetic properties of BeO-Fe2O3-Al2O3-TeO2 glass-ceramic composites

N. A. Wojcik et al.

Summary: Glass-ceramics in the xBeO-20Fe2O3-(80-x)TeO2 system with x = 0-25 mol% were synthesized and studied. The addition of BeO supported the crystallization of Fe2O3 during melting, resulting in an increase in the crystalline Fe2O3 phase and crystallite size with higher BeO content. Samples doped with BeO exhibited enhanced polymerization of the residual tellurite glass network compared to undoped samples, and all synthesized materials showed spin-glass behavior. Additionally, the Morin transition of hematite at 260 K was observed, with the intensity depending on Fe2O3 content and correlating with the amount of added BeO.
