Enhancing carbon dioxide gas-diffusion electrolysis by creating a hydrophobic catalyst microenvironment

Zhuo Xing et al.

Summary: The study found that a hydrophobic microenvironment can significantly enhance CO2 gas-diffusion electrolysis efficiency. Furthermore, a balanced gas/liquid microenvironment can reduce the diffusion layer thickness, accelerate CO2 mass transport, and increase CO2 local concentration for electrolysis.

Seven steps to reliable cyclic voltammetry measurements for the determination of double layer capacitance

Dulce M. Morales et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a seven-step method to reliably determine double layer capacitance using scan rate-dependent cyclic voltammetry, and applies it to two different systems for validation. Results show that neglecting any step leads to significant deviations in the results, and suggests a more suitable regression model for determining double layer capacitance.

Monitoring the active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction at model carbon surfaces

Regina M. Kluge et al.

Summary: Carbon is commonly used as an electrode material in electrochemical energy conversion devices and has recently attracted interest as an environmentally friendly alternative to noble metal catalysts. Research has shown that electrochemical scanning tunnelling microscopy can be utilized to pinpoint the active sites for hydrogen evolution reaction on carbon-based electrode materials. This insight can guide the synthesis of enhanced electrocatalysts by locating the active sites on doped carbon-based materials.
