Can Knowledge of Genetic Distances, Genome Sizes and Chromosome Numbers Support Breeding Programs in Hardy Geraniums?

Mehrdad Akbarzadeh et al.

Summary: In ornamental breeding programs, integrating knowledge of phylogenetic relatedness of potential parents and other genomic information can facilitate breeding. The study found that parental differences in genome size and chromosome number were not limiting for cross compatibility, and parent combinations with high genetic relatedness were more likely to result in successful crosses.
